Wellness Exercise Program
MAG-EXERCISE TAYO!
PROGRAM WELLNESS SNAPSHOTS
We started our Mag Exercise Tayo Program last June 10, 2020 with 5 participants. Exercises consists of chair exercises as well as some Range of Motion Exercises. Client’s safety was top priority that is why exercises are tailored to accommodate the level of fitness of each client. Participants showed great interest in performing the exercises and joins our sessions so that they can exercise with their peers. They also commented that the exercises are easy to follow and yet effective because they are able to stretch out their muscles and use this opportunity to do their warm-up before they go on their daily walk.
Here we have our clients demonstrating the warm-up exercises as well as some breathing techniques. Clients also reported that they started doing the exercise even if we don’t have our session. They are able to incorporate proper breathing technique when doing the exercises and reported that they are having fun and that they feel energised after we do our sessions. Clients also gave good feedback regarding the program that is why I decided on progressing them to more aerobic exercises as well as standing exercises.
For August, we’ve incorporated everyday materials such as towels to assist our exercises. In the pictures above, you can see our clients using their towels for some stretching exercises. We’ve also started with wall exercises to perform some stretching techniques and also serves as an additional support for them when doing the exercise in order to prevent accidents ie. Getting out of balanced and falling. Some of the exercises that we perform using the wall are mainly for stretching and using body weight for a bit of resistance training to improve strength on the Upper and lower parts of our body.
Some of the clients were prescribed Resistance Bands by their GP’s and Physios and so I decided to conduct a session wherein I teach our clients the proper way to use their resistance bands.
For the month of September, it’s just the continuation of our exercises. The clients are now comfortable in using their bands as well as performing their exercises on their own. I’ve noticed an improvement in breathing control as well as maintaining correct posture doing the exercises. I’ve also noticed that our 1 hour 15-minute routine can now be done within an hour and that clients are having lesser breaks because they are now familiar and well-adjusted to the exercises. There is also less verbal feedback because the clients are accustomed to the proper posture and technique in performing exercises. Clients have also reported in improvement in their flexibility. Tita Alma Bruan-Espiritu reported that at the start of our program she wasn’t able to lift her legs and stretch it but now she is able to easily lift her leg in order to stretch it. Tita Linda Vytiaco-Lampa also reported that at the start of our program she was having a difficult time coping with the exercises but now she is able to do it easily and enjoys is because it keeps her active throughout the day. We gained a very positive feedback from the clients with reports of improvement in their mood, decrease in joint pains, improved flexibility and even improvement of sleep.
